Datafile - Brimstone Academy

Emma Frost, Headmistress
of Brimstone Academy
The death of Charles Xavier and disbanding of the X-Men caused a great fracture between the students who once believed in his dream. Mutants have multiple options of mentors, teams and schools to develop their powers and decide where they stand on the issues that trouble all mutantkind.

The Brimstone Academy offers many of the trappings of the Xavier School, such as a boarding school feel and mutant power training. But the philosophy is much different. Graduates of the Academy become heroes and villains because they are taught one simple lesson. You have a gift of powers and only you will determine how that gift will be used.

The Academy is run by Emma Frost. The name is a call back to her associations with The Hellfire Club, though Emma insists the school is not grooming new kings or queens for that mutant secret society. The Academy is not as high profile as Col. Summers Xavier Peace Force, nor does it wish to be.

The children are generally from well-off families. Mutant teams are often created by the natural cliques that teenagers set up on their own. Frost has no problem pulling together a team from the members of her school for a particular agenda. The extent of the use of her psychic abilities is unknown, but most members seem happy to be in a place where their powers are not feared.

Longshot's Diary - Welcome to Creed Creek

Longshot’s Notes to Producers Diary Journal Musings
Alright, so I totally have this new movie plot for you guys.  Listen up!  We start our film on a distance shot of a dusty road, a high end SUV pulled over on the side of the empty stretch of desert.  A rugged, handsome man steps out of the car.  We’ll call him Blade… Maximus Blade.
Cut to the SUV bursting into flame as a ragtag bunch of heroes walk away (making sure not to look at the explosion).  Maximus, played of course by yours truly, leads the pack away from the flames.  The group consists of two hot ladies (one younger and more innocent looking [Fallow] and one more intimidating yet still gorgeous looking [Fuse]… gotta hit all the demographics here), a bulky dude with claws [Daken], and an intellectual doctor type [Relapse].
Cut to an Old West town, tumbleweeds and all.  A menacing bandit type guy with a nasty bite on him [Sabertooth] rolls up to the group as they approach the edge of the town.  We have a stare off, Old West style, right?  He totally backs down from my intimidating glance.  Cut to the bar, filled with hot girls drinking Zima ‘til the sun comes up, including a bluish purple one with a tail and the most AMAZING body you can imagine [Nightingale].  Behind the bar, Daken and Sabertooth scuffle.  *Insert non-Longshot Action Scene here*  [Writer’s Note:  Possibly incorporate Longshot into this scene to keep the audience invested]
Cut to a secret plot, Longshot and a strange stretchy man [Lasher] talk about getting rid of the bandits in this town and bringing back the piece.  Longshot and Daken then discuss how to handle the Sheriff [Sabertooth] and how this town ain’t big enough for the three of us.
Cut to huge fight scene involving a ton of pyrotechnics and a lot of the people that aren’t Maximus Blade fighting while Maximus rescues civilians with the help of the lovely Nightingale, who is both awed and wooed by his illustrious heroism in the face of mortal danger.  Maximus steals the evil bandit’s motorcycle, carrying all the civilians to safety while the battle rages on.  In the end, there's this bomb that's going to explode unless it keeps moving at at least 40 miles an hour, so Maximus loads it up on the bike and drives off into the desert, saving the world as the credits roll.
I haven’t wrote the ending yet, and some of the middle bits need to be filled in, but I can definitely see this as the next big action hit!  It’s totally a blockbuster waiting to be made.  Start counting the millions now, folks!

Brianna's Diary - Dazzler...LIVE!

So, I can't believe I'm actually doing this. I mean, really can't believe I'm doing this but I don't know if... well, I don't know very much right now. So, what the hell, here it goes...

Dear Diary,

First off, the only reason why I'm doing this, in case some one who is not supposed to be reading this happens upon this diary, is because Emma Frost (yes, THE Emma Frost) said this would be a good idea.
See, I'm a mutant. My power allows me to copy other mutant powers. If I try hard enough and concentrate enough, I can steal the powers. The mutant eventually gets them back. How long that takes depends on me. Frost pushed me further and further each time I "trained" with the other students.
She told me to start keeping a journal to remind of memories were mine and which ones weren't. I haven't gotten any other memories though. t felt
Well, until a little bit ago at least... I've started remembering things, I developed new powers. I can fly and I'm a lot stronger.

It calls itself The Phoenix. It knows people. It remembers people. Like Cyclops, Beast, Longshot, Wolverine, Professor Xavier, Iceman, Gambit, Rogue and so man of the X-men. I've never met them. I went straight to Brimstone Academy the first time I accidentally read my parents' minds.

The Phoenix keeps telling me that Jean Grey really isn't Jean Grey. Grey showed up at the memorial and The Phoenix just took over my whole body, my whole BEING and addressed the entire crowd. Told them all that the Jean Grey standing before them wasn't real. Attacked Cyclops, told him "She's dead Scott, you know this," or something like that. It's a touch fuzzy really. It felt like the last time Frost was in my head but a lot less frosty. We are all The Phoenix. Each with a burning ember inside.

She, The Phoenix, sorry I just really don't want to think that The Phoenix is male. That's just creepy. Like Longshot in just a smoking jacket refusing to put pants on creepy.

Anyway, she, The Phoenix was talking to me, no wait, it was Jean Grey. The fake Jean Grey. The fake, dead Jean Grey was talking to me in the mirrors in Dazzler's mansion. That woman has too many mirrors by the way. Way too many. It's creepy. Like Longshot in a smoking... sorry...

Okay mirrors. Fake Jean Grey talking to me. Back on track.

She told me that The Phoenix isn't telling me something. I don't know how to ask though!
I think I may just be losing my mind. Maybe Frost implanted something in my brain? I don't know. It's really scary.

It's nice to have other mutants around me though. They're all pretty nice. Well, except for Daken. He doesn't seem mean though, just angry. I wonder if Wolverine is as handsome as he is...

Longshot seems kind of sad sometimes, like he misses people. I can't tell if it's The Phoenix or me who wants to give him a big hug and tell him that he is a good person and he's important to people even if he's not a TV star anymore.

Special Agent Danvers is definitely in the right line of work. She's so serious and well, serious. I wouldn't be surprised if she were a ninja. Seriously. She looks like the kind of woman that has some sort of secret awesome power that only comes out when she's super angry or something. OMG! Maybe she's She-Hulk! Nah, that's just silly. You trust her and not me?

Nightingale is very sweet. I can see the sadness and confusion in her eyes in being in this dimension though. Not going to lie, I would love to see "Auntie Emma" in her version of the world. I bet her cookies are as wonderful as Nightingale says and I bet she does have a beautiful singing voice. My head might explode from that juxtaposition though. I've never known Frost to be anything but a cold woman who is more prone to using cruelty than compliments and encouragement. I still remember the cries of the other students... She makes her world better than it is. The Phoenix is everywhere. I see through her lies.

Relapse, who I like to call just The Doctor in my head, is so far in the mutant closet he's playing with Aslan in Narnia. I have no idea what that must be like for him. I never got the chance to hide what I was. I suppose I'm a bit jealous. I mean he can actually help people. I'm just a copy cat. I wonder who Fallow really is though. She called him "brother". Maybe I'm not the only one running from others? They are more like you than you think.

I'm glad to have them around though. I don't think I'd be very good on my own. I may have to have a "okay what do you do and how do I control it if I need your power" talk with them though. They may be the only thing standing between me and well, Brimstone Academy and everyone else who wants to kill me for accusing Jean Grey of not being Jean Grey. And here I thought life was going to be better once I got away from Frost.

I just hope Jonas doesn't hate me. I know he wanted to come with but I just... I miss him. I miss him so much and wish he would have come with me. I don't think Anna would have died if he was with me. You'll see him soon. He thinks about you every night.

Recap - Dazzler...LIVE!

Longshot’s Notes to Producers Diary Journal Musings
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you’re never coming round….
So today I went to Vegas to see Dazzler’s show… again.  I don’t know why I keep going back.  It’s always the same show.  Pyrotechnics, “ABBA” songs, dancing Wolverines, fake fights… Maybe I miss it.  Or at least her.  I think I know the whole thing by heart now, though it has yet to get old.
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears…
I decided to step it up a bit today, though.  Rather than my usual sulking from the spectator seats, I took it upon myself to replace the fake me she had cast.  His hair is AWFUL.  She dedicated the song to me again.  “A Winner Takes It All”.  Ha, yeah right.  I’m lucky, but I feel like I’m missing so much.  It was nice being on stage with her again, though, singing our duet.  I think she was surprised to see me.
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by…
It’s nice to have friends and be part of a team again; I think it’s renewed my self-confidence a bit.  Even if they ARE a motley crew and we ARE on the run… nothing beats the camaraderie.  Not having to be alone anymore.  It’s like the olden days.  Heck, even Gambit was there… the Ragin’ Cajun was definitely a sight for sore eyes.  With Daken dressed like Wolverine and Fuse doing the whole Phoenix thing, it almost felt like the X-Men hadn’t changed.  Kurt even lives on in our little gang in his daughter, Nightingale.  Speaking of Nightingale… I think she’s having trouble coping with the whole “Ms. Marvel is my mother but not really my mother” alternate universe thing, but that’s another story entirely.
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eye…
Alison and I had some time to get reacquainted while the others left to explore the city.  For the first time in years, we had an actual conversation.  It was nice.  I decided to ignore our sordid past and try to look back to our happier times.  The rush of nostalgia flowing through me, I convinced her to remember better times.  Besides, Alison never could resist my boyish charms.  Note to future self:  Read “War and Peace” before coming back to Vegas.  I found my old smoking jacket too!  Good times…
Turn around, bright eyes… every now and then I fall apart…
Apparently I’m not the only one that doesn’t miss a show.  Alison told us about her stalker.  This girl, Tammy, is quite a nutjob.  She staged a riot of sorts at the show, with shining destructive disco balls of doom.  I took out 4 of them, just like in the old days.  My body just remembers how to fight and survive.  The things Mojo threw at me make fights like this one seem easy.  Alison was safe, thanks to my bravery.
I really need you tonight… forever’s gonna start tonight…
So Dazzler hired us to hunt down her ex-stage manager douchebag who helped facilitate Tammy’s attack.   As expected of them, Daken and Relapse asked for money.  We tracked him to an old casino where the bright Vegas lights go to die.  Turns out he was building tech for villains and money.  Go figure.  I couldn’t really forgive him for how he sold Allison out and almost murdered her.
Once upon a time there was light in my life, now there’s only love in the dark…
We had a beautiful dance.  One who called herself Fallow and I danced to the very ballad that broke my heart.  The song that Alison won’t sing on stage anymore.  The last song the Genie ever heard… I made sure of that.  I hope I can take her pain away and fix all the problems I caused her.  Maybe she’ll be able to move on… Maybe we’ll have our life back…
….there’s nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart.

The Opening Credits - X-Country

One thing I always like to do for a game is find a theme song. In addition, having the players remember their favorite scene from the last session to fill said fake credits secrets helps people keep currents events fresh.

Longshot makes the Sentinel reboot
Fuse argues with Jean Grey in the mirror
Relapse surrounded by the anti-mutant mob

X-Country - Milestones and Unlockables - False Phoenix Arc

Milestone: Presumed Innocent
1 XP: when you ignore anti-mutant prejudice
3 XP: when you take action to protect someone with an anti-mutant viewpoint
10 XP: when you turn yourself in for your day in court or sacrifice yourself for a world that hates you

Milestone: Proven Guilty
1 XP: when you confront another mutant outside the team about Jean Grey's message
3 XP: when you inflict stress on a mutant who believes Jean has returned
10 XP: when you finish the job started at the Xavier Memorial or start a civil war between mutants with the truth of the False Phoenix

5/10 XP: Unlock Mutant Aid
Not every mutant believes that Jean Grey's reappearance is legitimate. Those who came to the Xavier Memorial were mostly convinced but there are those with doubts. For 5 XP, a known mutant will aid your team subtly. They will put you up, offer resources, but will do so in a way where their help won't be traced back. For 10 XP, that mutant will come to your aid in an out-and-out conflict.

5/10: Unlock Government Aid
Beast was not fooled by the False Phoenix. Carol Danvers is working with him to keep the fugitives on the move while he works on discovering the truth behind Jean's return. Beast has many connections within Washington D.C. and is willing to use those connections to help you out. 5 XP will have the Beast's pull get rid of any legal issues, like getting bailed out after being arrested. 10 XP lets Beast call in a favor from one of his non-mutant buddies to help out the fugitives in a time of need.

Recap - "Museum Pieces"

Source: A deleted e-mail on a phone tossed in the East River.

Carol,

It seemed just like old times on the roof of the parking garage. There’s a part of me that wishes I was the one that was chasing around with a rambunctious group of young mutants underfoot and you were the one calling in favors and strong-arming government officials. Maybe next time.

The media is gobbling up the Sentinel attack story. Those kids saved a lot of lives in there, but it’s given fuel to anti-mutant groups calling for your capture and arrest. The silver lining is that you proved a theory of mine. Genosha wouldn’t have two highly-trained Genetic Purity Guards standing around guarding Magneto’s helmet. Those guards were fake, which means the GPG has a few operatives in-country working for Genoshian interests. It wouldn’t surprise me if one of them contacted you while on the run.

The battle at the Xavier memorial is less of a media sensation. “Mutants fight” is sadly the equivalent of “dog bites man” in the modern press. I’ve kept the mentions of Jean’s supposed appearance out of the media, but it is a very hot topic amongst the various mutant factions. Scott believes it’s her, Bobby is unsure and don’t believe it is. I wish I had more evidence than a hunch. I would even take Logan’s sniff test. Scott is greaing up for a full-scale manhunt, not just because of what that redhead who claimed to be the real Phoenix did to him. The last thing anyone wants to see is children killing children.

The young woman in question is named Brianna Murphy. She is a student of Emma Frost’s Brimstone Academy under the name of Fuse. Or, I should say was, as it seems Frost is on the hunt for the young woman. I don’t truly think she’s the Phoenix either. But until I can know for certain, you’ve got to keep her alive and away from anyone looking to exploit her abilities to mimic powers.

Longshot’s reappearance should help those kids as well. For all I know he could be using this as a platform to restart his fame. But I will take a trained X-Man in the mix, even if it’s one who is in it for the glory and fame rather than reasons more aligned with the original intent. I apologize in advance for whatever sleazy come-ons he throws your way.

The young doctor is a very interesting case. Robert Blake Mendelevium, an orphan who became chief of Surgery by 31. IF he’s a mutant, having the name of a radioactive element seems like a cruel joke. Something doesn’t quite feel right about his paperwork, but his ability to transfer injuries to people will prove very useful in the field.

Daken Akihiro has a very colorful history. He claims to be Logan’s son. I can’t imagine anyone would make that claim willingly. Akihiro shares a lot of his father’s traits. He also spent sometime under the tutelage of Remy LeBeau in New Orleans. If you can keep him from pursuing agendas counter to ours, he can prove to be quite useful in the field.

I could not find any information on Nightingale, the woman claiming to be Nightcrawler’s daughter from another dimension. My extradimentional influence is not what it once was, but you have to be careful with elements like these. You never know when they will attack someone you view as an ally and vice versa. Her teleportation is obviously useful but handle with care.

I’m sorry I had to burn you, but we both know it’s the best way to come up with a convincing story. If you are perceived as an outcast, you are more likely to get true opinions and information on this Jean impostor. I will do what I can amongst the old guard and you do what you must in the field. This email will cause the cell phone to brick in five seconds after you hit delete. Please dispose of it in the usual manner.

Good luck, Carol.
